New beginnings, that’s what.

My cousin emailed me last night–we’d been volleying back and forth about holiday plans yesterday and the most recent email I received from her said “WE AREN’T GOING TO BE HERE ANYWAY.  THE WORLD IS COMING TO AN END TOMORROW.  SO, SEE YOU IN HEAVEN!  LOVE YOU! COLLEEN    LOL”  (Capitals were hers.)  I emailed back this morning saying “Dang.  We’re still here!  I guess I’d better work today…”

What I notice for myself in all of the Mayan Drama is that a lot of people may not realize that they can start over any time they choose to.  Actually, more rigorously said, it’s “Start now.”  Time is a concept, not a thing.  What we have is NOW.  All there is, is Now.  And Now.

At a meeting this morning a business acquaintance of mine, who recently took a sales position with a new company, mentioned that he’s been inspired and excited since joining the new firm.  He shared that although he’s very skilled in his industry already, the new position has him looking at his world with new eyes.  In the unfamiliar new territory, he’s experiencing renewed commitment and purpose and opportunities.

I couldn’t resist offering him a distinction:  Rather than having this be a short term experience of new openings, he could, if he chose to, PRACTICE giving himself new openings all the time.  Of course, it would require that he have it be okay with himself that he doesn’t already know everything.  This particular man is so great, that he immediately “got” what I was offering him.

What if you and everything around you were always New?  What would you practice?
